Frieze has an article with short mention of IKEA.

2. i agree. i think i did imply this point in the article, both unconventional design, but 032c made a cultural sense.
3/4. agree, which is also the point i wish to make in the article.

sorry didnt raise much of a debate.

2. 032c isnt quite the same, It is making an anti-statement and social commentary, and IKEA is quite different if not opposite.

3. When desktop publishing makes design management more and more efficient, it is no argument to say we change for the future because “更加经济和高效”。

4. to the recent so-called “ugly” design, maybe Walter Benjamin was on something,

But I dont think IKEA is on the way to evolution by retreating to the mundane. It is a lazy managerial decision to “change” for the better future. since the advent of WOFF and other font sharing server applications, such “理性思考” decision is not quite foresighted.
